George's Testimony

George was raised Catholic in Groves, Texas and went to Immaculate Conception Church every Sunday. He went to Catholic school, baptized as a young boy, served as altar boy for several years, and organized a Friday night dance event for teenagers. I was raised were Playboy and Hustler (pornography) was laying on the table in the living room with Sports Illustrated and Popular Mechanic magazines. This went on for years and I thought it was normal. I never knew it was a sin to look at such material until my second marriage. My father was also an acholic and an abusive drunk. Due to the abuses of my natural father to my family, I began to rely on God as my earthly Father and I began a daily communication with Jesus Christ as my Savior. I was never trained on how to be an adult man, dating, sex, marriage, or raising kids. His parents had a abusive marriage for as long as he could remember and the abuse rolled downhill to him and his two younger brothers and sister. The family was very dis-functional. The kids were raised as latch key kids while the parents worked. His parents divorced and were ex-communicated from the Catholic church when he was 14. This is when I separated from the church, but I still held religious convictions of being saved through baptism and had biblical example of what God intended a marriage to be. Blessings-1 I was living in the situation which was fear, abandonment, anxiety, loss of identity, and pride. Blessings-2

When he graduated from High School, he moved to Houston to begin work as a draftsman with Brown & Root. He spent many years separated from the church but because of his church upbringing he still felt close to God in all that he did. George knew at an early age, all that George was, were direct blessings from God. His life, his skills, his job, and his money all were gifts and blessings from God. But living in a worldly town like Houston has it failings. For many years George was into drugs and prostitution with the money God so freely supplied him. He woke up one morning after an all night party of drinking and drugs on the side of a pool. He realized that all the friends he thought he had were only there for the free booze and drugs that he provided. He could have rolled into the pool and drowned and none of them would have cared. He realized that none of theser so called friends would help him with work, business or personal life in general. This was the day I re-dedicated my life to Christ and prayed for him to give me guidance and direction for my life. I relaized at this time I had wasted 5 years of my life to drugs and alcohol and that had to stop. I prayed to God for him to deliver my from the drugs and alcohol that morning. Blessings-2

My prayers were answered after a few days by a knock at my door and a girlfriend of my past was there staring at me. She had followed me to Houston from Beaumont and wanted to move in with me. I said yes, and she moved in with me. This to me was a sign from God because she was not into partying, booze, and drugs like I was, and this would eventually help me stop. We did not know it at the time but us living together was committing adultery in God's eyes. We lived together five years before getting married. Neither of us were ever taught about God's provision of marriage or adultery. We talked about future of marriage and kids and how we wanted our life to be. After spending 4 years living together, she became pregnant. So, we moved up our marriage date so we could get married before she started showing. What I did not know, I was repeating my own father’s same mistake. I found out at the age of 14 that I was conceived outside of marriage and my parents decided not to have an abortion and got married. Blessings-3

My first wife and I were married for 14 years. We had 1 son and 2 daughters. We located a church with a Mother’s Day out program which we used and decided to visit it on Sunday's. We decided to raise our kids going to church. We were involved with everything at church. We went 4-5 times a week and went to every activity and event. I started getting involved in the church by building the Church Web site (8 yr.), men's group leader (5 yr.), prayer & praise service organizer, member of choir, church retreat (Camp Allen) organizer, prayer vigil participant, church cook, Lenten fish fry organizer, men's breakfast, and scout brisket fundraiser organizer. We went there for over 10 years and were very active in attending the church, but I realized we were getting nothing scriptural out of it. No bible study, no Christian life studies, no marriage classes. Nothing to help us grow as Christians. We had a worldly marriage full of arguing and bitterness. My wife and I were separated for 2 years, and she would never discuss reconciliation. I continued to talk and pray to God for direction in my marriage, raising kids, and in my work. God knew that I would only give my wife a divorce if she told me that she did not love me no more. One day I called my wife and told her we needed to talk, and she agreed to meet me. When we met, she informed me that she did not ever love me that she only wanted someone to have kids with and get her green card. My wife was a nurse from England and only wanted to be a U.S. citizen. We both agreed to a divorce where she got the kids. I could not turn my kids against their mother and survive. My kids were teenagers when we divorced. My wife got the kids and I put the kids in God's hands. I had done all I could as a father. Blessings 3and4

During the divorce I started going back to church at Lakewood in Houston. The Men's group was very supportive of me during my divorce. I started going to Wednesday prayer & praise services every week. After the divorce I started looking for another Christian wife. I knew that after having a wife and kids at home for 14 years I could not live without someone to share my life with. Blessings 3and4

I met Cheryl with an online dating service and our first date was at Lakewood church. Cheryl and I hit it off right away and she knew that I wanted to get married to someone within a year or so. She was open to the idea, and we began spending lots of time together trying to get to know each other as best we could. I had weekly visitation of my kids at that time, so Cheryl and I were careful not to give them the wrong idea about our relationship. After being together for almost a month solid we decided that a marriage between us would work with God's help. We agreed upfront that we wanted a biblical marriage were Cheryl stayed home and I provided for her while she supported me. We acknowledged to each other that we did not know everything about each other, and we would not hold anything against each other and let God take care of everything for us. Over the years, we have had our ups and downs just like any couple, but we got thru it because we stayed focused on "Marriage is for Life" and a marriage union is a special union that God created. Cheryl, her mother, and I went to Lakewood church for a period of 2 years. Lakewood church was in Houston and Cheryl and George lived in Willis, Texas. It was a long commute twice a week for services with Cheryl’s mother. So, we began looking for a closer church where they could become part of the body and where they felt close to God during the worship services. Blessings 3and4

We visited a few churches and settled on a newly planted church called "The Fellowship Church of Willis" in the city of Willis, Texas. It was a very warm and loving church, and they immediately felt the presence of God in the fellowship and worship services. We participated in as ministries as our time would allow which included Men's group cook, praise service vocalists, prayer group with pastor, food bank volunteer, prayer warrior at food bank, and karaoke soloist singer at Rosehill Park Crawfish Boil. George also joined a Christian vocal choir outside the church called "The Grateful Heart Singers". They sang at special events, nursing homes, Incredible Pizza, and church socials. Cheryl and George belonged to that church for 5 years until they had to move due to un-employment. Blessings 3and4

Cheryl and George moved to Walden sub-division preparing for retirement in Montgomery and began looking for churches in that area. We visited "Fellowship of Montgomery" church, in Montgomery, Texas on a Sunday and the pastors sermon reached both of us where we were at, and we decided to make that our new home. While at Fellowship of Montgomery we were active in Men's group as assistant, men's group cook, food bank volunteer, and prayer warrior at food bank. George was re-baptized to show a new commitment to Jesus Christ in his life. We were there 2 years before we moved back to Willis to get back to country standard of living where things are quite a bit slower. Blessings-4

We moved to Willis for retirement, and we started talking about looking for a new church feeling part of our life was missing. During that time our neighbor named Walter invited us to a potluck Wednesday night bible study at his church in New Waverly. The moment we walked into the doors of the cowboy church called "Waverly Station Cowboy Fellowship" we felt the love and the present of God from everyone we met. On the ride home we told each other that this was the one for us. While at this church we decided to start a Christian Ministry called "The Disciples" to provide additional services the four-county area that local churches were not able to fill.

Currently, The Disciples serves Montgomery, Polk, Grimes, Walker, and San Jacinto counties with Christian Ministry to included Christian Gosphel Music at public venues (Golden Corral Conroe, Incredible Pizza Conroe, etc.). Blessings-4
